WASHINGTON - President Obama announced Friday that he is renewing the Iraq war for one more season. The war will feature brand new episodes beginning immediately that will end in May. Following a summer hiatus, the war will return with all new material after Labor Day.
The news surprised many of the President’s supporters, who believed the war was going to be cancelled.
“I thought for sure this thing was going to wrap up after the March sweeps,” said Senator Barbara Boxer. “It turns out we’re all going to have to wait until August of 2010 to find out how it ends.”
The President conceded that he initially intended to wrap production as quickly as possible, but the cast and crew prevailed upon him to give them a chance to bring the matter to a satisfactory conclusion. He said he has seen advance copies of the script, and is excited.
“I want to tell the American people that the twists and turns in the plot of this war are going to have you on the edge of your seat.”
Obama refused to say whether or not the super-villain audiences love to hate, Moqtada al-Sader, will have a prominent role in the storyline, but acknowledges that many old favorites will have cameos throughout the season.
“Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, General Petraeus. They all appear in flashbacks.”
The final episode is scheduled to run in December of 2011. The President said he was confident it was going to draw big numbers.
“We’re going to make the ratings for the last M*A*S*H look like the ratings for The George Plimpton Variety Hour on PBS.”
